ABC’s ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ canceled as a weekly series

Feel-good home improvement show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will air its series finale early next year, ending its run as a weekly show, ABC announced Thursday afternoon.

But hold on — they’re not quite canceling the show permanently. The network will continue to air specials throughout the year (sort of how when Fox wrapped up the long-running ”America’s Most Wanted,” it continued to come back for quarterly episodes).

“EM:HE” will wrap up on Jan. 6 and 13., marking its 200th episode, and showing the show’s team building seven homes in a week for people who lost everything in the Joplin, Mo., tornadoes.

And host Ty Pennington has already moved on — in addition to hosting new pilot “The Great Big American Auction” last week, Pennington will appear on “The Revolution,” ABC’s new healthy lifestyle daytime talk show that debuts in January.
