CBS names Major Garrett new chief White House correspondent

CBS News has named Major Garrett to chief White House correspondent, who also occasionally substitutes as anchor of CBS’s Sunday beltway show “Face the Nation,” which has been enjoying a ratings surge since expanding to a one-hour format.

Garrett has been seen on CBS News as part of a partnership between the news division and National Journal. Garrett will contribute to National Journal going forward as a correspondent-at-large and weekly columnist.

Before joining National Journal, he was chief White House correspondent for Fox News Channel, where he worked eight years, following a stint at CNN as a White House correspondent.

The former Washington Times congressional reporter and deputy national editor also once worked at U.S. News & World Report.
