CBS renews ‘NCIS’ for 11th season

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, for CBS and NBC, respectively, on Friday.

CBS announced it has ordered an 11th season of the country’s No. 1 ranked series, the drama “NCIS” which is averaging nearly 22 million viewers this season.

Nielsen announced the launch of NBC’s newest drama series “Do No Harm” on Thursday night set a new record, as the lowest rated in-season scripted series debut ever among the major broadcast networks.

“Harm” scored a puny 3.1 million viewers and scored 0.9 percent of the country’s 18-to-49 year-olds, who are the target audience of NBC ad sales.

“In a world gone niche, ‘NCIS’ keeps getting bigger, and [series star/exec producer] Mark Harmon continues to define the role of leading man on the #1 show on television,” CBS Corp CEO Leslie Moonves said in Friday’s announcement, which noted “NCIS’ is the country’s No. 1 program this season for the first time ever, ahead even of NBC’s Sunday football.

“‘NCIS’ is the type of franchise every company wants in today’s global content ecosystem — high-quality storytelling that generates passionate viewers and drives revenue on every conceivable platform,” Moonves said in CBS’s announcement.

Meanwhile, NBC had nothing to say Friday about its launch of “Harm.”

“Harm,” about a doctor with a split personality and the skeevy one comes out at night, did about 50 percent worse than canceled “Awake” did in the same timeslot when it was unfurled last March.
