It’s only mid-October, but sure, let’s talk Christmas.
CBS announced Thursday that in addition to all its classic annual Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman programming, it will debut new animated special “It’s a SpongeBob Christmas!” on Nov. 23 at 9:30 p.m.
The network added that this is the first stop-animation feature for Nickelodeon’s popular “SpongeBob Squarepants” franchise, and inspired by the song called “Don’t Be a Jerk, It's Christmas.”
(Nickelodeon’s parent company, Viacom, has a long history with CBS, though the two companies split into separate entities in 2006.)
Like so many Christmas tales, this one involves Mr. Krabs’ nemesis, Plankton, who decides to get his Christmas wish by turning everyone around him bad — with his special jerktonium-laced fruitcake, of course.
John Goodman will voice Santa in the special. Coincidentally, Goodman is also the voice of Frosty the Snowman in cartoon musical “Frosty Returns,” which airs on CBS the same night as the “SpongeBob” special at 8:30 p.m., the day after Thanksgiving.
