Fox has officially confirmed British singer Cheryl Cole as a judge for Simon Cowell’s singing competition “The X Factor,” debuting on Fox in the fall.
The not-surprising news comes about a week after Simon gave a lengthy interview saying that he would like to see Cole -- who sat beside him as judge on the U.K. version of “The X Factor” -- join the American show’s judging panel.
Simon also said he wanted Paula Abdul -- but no word on that yet.
Cole, who joins already-announced judge record producer Antonio “L.A.” Reid, won’t be too familiar to American audiences. But she’s known in the U.K. as a member of Girls Aloud, which Fox notes in its announcement, is “one of the U.K.’s most successful female vocal groups of all time.”
“I’m thrilled for Cheryl. She is massively excited about this show, and has been fantastic to work with,” Cowell said in the announcement.
“She is also a complete brat!” he added, without explanation.
