Christmas comes early for HLN with Michael Jackson doctor trial

Christmas came early for cable news network HLN with the start of Michael Jackson’s doctor trial. Conrad Murray, accused of causing the pop star’s death, was put on trial Tuesday, and broadcast across HLN.

The channel, which promised “gavel-to-gavel” coverage of the trial from start to finish, is likely hoping for Casey Anthony trial-esque ratings. Back in July when Nancy Grace declared “The devil is dancing tonight!” after a Florida jury acquitted Anthony of murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter in the death of her 2-year-old daughter Grace grabbed 3 million viewers — her best ratings ever.

All of HLN’s primetime characters — Joy Behar, Dr. Drew, Jane Velez-Mitchell, who’s filling in temporarily while Grace is competing on “Dancing With the Stars” — weighed in on the Michael Jackson trial on Tuesday night.

Ratings for HLN won’t be available until later, but we’ll keep you updated.
