CW picks up ’Ringer,’ ‘Hart of Dixie’ and ‘Secret Circle’ for full seasons

Sarah Michelle Gellarin “Ringer” (Eric Liebowitz - CBS)
CW wanted to be first at something and so it has picked up all three of its new drama series: Sarah Michelle Gellar’s “Ringer,” Rachel Bilson’s “Hart of Dixie” and Kevin Williamson’s “Secret Circle” for the rest of the new season. They are the first of the season’s new drama series to get so-called “full season” orders.

“We believe in the creative strength of these dramas, and by giving them back nine orders we can give our audience the chance to enjoy complete seasons of all three of them,” CW president Mark Pedowitz said in the network’s announcement.

On Tuesday, “Ringer” — which was developed at CBS but migrated to CW during development for this season, when CBS execs woke up and said, “Oh yeah, we don’t do heavily serialized dramas!” — averaged 1.7 million viewers, which was slightly better than the week previous.

So far, the other new series to snag full season orders are all comedies: Fox’s “New Girl,” CBS’s “2 Broke Girls,” and NBC’s “Up All Night” and “Whitney.”
