Tuesday was double elimination night on “Dancing With the Stars,” and two celebs who had both won their respective seasons got the boot — boy bander Drew Lachey and racecar driver Helio Castroneves.
Earlier, Drew was seen acting slightly bitter on performance night after getting all 8’s from the judges, following what he thought was a stellar cha cha with partner Anna Trebynskaya.
“Still don’t understand the judges’ scoring. Still don’t,” he fumed in the footage from Monday’s show, shaking his head. “And I guess I just never will. And hopefully, people will vote for us, and we’ll get to dance again, and maybe get scores that we deserve.”
But when Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke Charvet read the results, Drew was much more calm. “It’s going to be tough regardless of who went home tonight, but I can honestly say I would not change a thing,” he said. “You know, everybody questioned why I would come back. I came back cause this is fun. We had a great time. I had an amazing partner.”
Helio also bid farewell with partner Chelsie Hightower. He was all smiles as he thanked everyone to his racing league and his family and America for letting him come back and participate.
Among other highlights:
* Not only were Bristol Palin and Mark deemed safe again after receiving the lowest scores of the night, but we got to see behind-the-scenes shots of Bristol and Mark (and Sarah Palin, in the audience) wincing at footage Monday night of Bristol’s rehearsal week meltdown. But Bristol and Mark shrugged it off backstage. “Whatever,” Bristol said. “It’s all going to be alright now,” Mark assured her.
* Awkwardness (in the form of Kyle Massey) in the house! Massey — whose family this summer sued the producers of Bristol Palin’s Lifetime reality show, claiming they came up with the idea — returned to the show to perform, and show off some moves he’s learned at the “DWTS” live show in Vegas. No interaction with Bristol, or mention of the fact that he wasn’t chosen by viewers as the 13th contestant to compete on “All Stars.”
* Next week, in addition to Paula Abdul stopping by as a guest judge, each pair is required to pick a dance style for another duo to perform. Here’s how the choices played out:
Bristol/Mark chose Bollywood for Gilles/Peta
Kirstie/Maks chose Disco for Sabrina/Louis
Helio/Chelsie chose Mambo for Shawn/Derek
Kelly/Val chose Bolero for Emmitt/Cheryl
Melissa/Tony chose Hip Hop for Apolo/Karina
Apolo/Karina chose Jitterbug for Melissa/Tony
Emmitt/Cheryl chose Contemporary Kelly/Val
Sabrina/Louis chose Charleston for Kirstie/Maks
By default, Bristol/Mark get Rock and Roll
