Fox picks up ‘House’ for Season 8

House (Hugh Laurie) does something very unexpected in the season finale of “House.” (Ray Mickshaw - Fox)
On the heels of picking up two animated shows before upfront week, Fox has also renewed medical drama “House” for an eighth season.

Starring Hugh Laurie as a notoriously cranky doctor, the show’s uncertain future has been the focus of speculation, given it’s one of those cases where the company that produces the show (Universal Media Studios) isn’t the parent company of the network that airs it.

Reports surfaced of long, drawn-out negotiations between Fox and Universal Media Studios, as Fox wanted a lower licensing fee per episode.

But now the series will live on for at least one more year — Season 7 wraps up with the finale on May 23.
