Fox sets fall schedule rollout dates, 'Terra Nova’ premiere

Fox thinks the season debut of its animated Sunday series is a better springboard than its Jane Lynch-hosted Primetime Emmy Awards for the launch of new Steven Spielberg’s new drama “Terra Nova.”

So Fox will wait until the second Monday of the 2011-12 television season to launch its much-delayed time-traveling orgy-of-special-effects.

Meanwhile, Fox won’t put the finishing touches on its fall schedule until the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving, when it premieres its new sitcom “I Hate My Teenage Daughter” in its Wednesday 9:30 p.m. timeslot.

Fox kicks off its new TV season more than two months before that, with the return of “Cops” on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Sunday, Sept. 18 – the night before Nielsen official starts the new TV season, it’s Fox’s turn to air the Primetime Emmy Awards.Typically the broadcast network airing the trophy show uses it as a launchpad for its new-season lineup. And you’re going to see lots of promos for new Fox series during the three hour trophy-dispensing ritual. But you won’t see any promos urging you to watch the launch of “Terra Nova” the next night --- the first night of Nielsen’s official 2011-12 television season. The doomsday drama will debut one week later.

The second night of the new season, Tuesday, Sept. 20, Lynch returns as evil Sue Sylvester in the season launch of  “Glee” followed by  premiere of comedy “New Girl,” starring Zooey Deschanel as an “adorkable” chick living with three single guys, and the return of  “Raising Hope.”

Simon Cowell’s two-night singing competition series, “The X Factor” also debuts that week, on Wednesday and Thursday.

That Friday, Fox queues up season debuts of “Kitchen Nightmares” and “Fringe.”

The first Sunday of the season, all of Fox’s animated comedies – except the new  “Allen Gregory” – will debut. The young-guy-centric comedies will be chock-a-block with promos for “Terra Nova,” which is introduced the next night. It will be a two hour launch, so “House” won’t debut until the following Monday, Oct. 3.

Jumping ahead to Halloween weekend, “America’s Most Wanted” will air the first of its two hour quarterly specials on Saturday, Oct. 29, following which, on Oct. 30, Fox new animated sitcom “Allen Gregory” will finally be introduced, right after an episode of “The Simpsons” which presumably will be the annual – and highly watched – Halloween episode of that long-running show.

Not until Thursday, Nov. 3 will Fox trot out the season debut of  “Bones” after an “X Factor” episode. And, if you’re anxiously awaiting the return of Jaime Pressly to broadcast series television – this time playing one of two former nerds/single moms who’ve carefully raised popular, nasty daughters --  you’ll have to wait until Wednesday, Nov. 23.
