‘Harry’s Law’ star Kathy Bates to play Jessica Lange enemy in FX anthology ‘American Horror Story’

Kathy Bates: too old for NBC – just fine for FX.

Ryan Murphy has cast Kathy Bates in the third season of FX’s “American Horror Story,” joining “AHS” Repertory Theater members Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga, Frances Conroy, and Lily Rabe.

TV-series-wise, Bates most recently starred in NBC’s David E. Kelley-produced “Harry’s Law.” NBC canceled the legal drama last May, though it was one of its most-watched series, because it skewed older.

(Bates also got rave reviews — and her first Emmy — playing the ghost of Charlie Sheen’s “Two and a Half Men” character Charlie Harper.)

In the next season of “AHS,” Bates will play BFF-turned-enemy to Lange — the show’s leading scenery chewer who, next season, will not play a nun but a “glamour cat leading lady,” TV Line reported.
