HBO renews ‘Boardwalk Empire’ for a fourth season

“Boardwalk Empire” (Macall B. Polay - HBO)

HBO has renewed mob-centric series “Boardwalk Empire” for another season, the network announced Tuesday.

The drama, produced by Martin Scorsese and starring Steve Buscemi as an Atlantic City gangster, has aired three episodes of its current season. About 2.9 million people watched the third season premiere on Sept. 16, and thanks to additional telecasts, has gathered about 7.2 million viewers overall.

This year's premiere ratings were on par with last season, and the season before, holding steady at just about 2.9 million people.
