Jake Tapper’s CNN show debuts to unimpressive ratings

In his Monday debut as “The Face of The New CNN” (Jeff Zucker, 3/18/13) Jake Tapper got beat by his timeslot competitors on  FNC, MSNBC, and HLN.

Averaging about 400,000 people — nearly 90,000 of them aged 25-54, a.k.a. the currency of TV news ad sales — Tapper’s first night as host of “The Lead” also got whomped by Nickelodeon’s “Fairly Odd Parents,” TVLand’s “Andy Griffith Show,” Nick Jr.’s “Peppa Pig” and Disney’s “Dog with a Blog.”

One week earlier, in the same hour on CNN, Wolf Blitzer clocked 576,000 viewers — 139,000 of them in the key age bracket. In fairness, that ratings performance, this past Monday, would have left Wolf trailing “Fairly Odd Parents,” and “Dog with a Blog,” though he would have thumped “The Andy Griffith Show” and “Peppa Pig.”
