Joy Behar to exit ‘The View’

Joy Behar (Charles Sykes - AP)
Joy Behar announced late Thursday that she will leave the daytime talker “The View.”

The contract for the comic — who is the last original cast member of the show besides Barbara Walters — is coming up in August. Behar has been with the show nearly 17 years.

“It seemed like the right time,” Behar announced via an interview she gave to Deadline.com.

“I do like talk shows, I’m interested in talking to people,” she said. “I want to do an intelligent talk show where you have room to breath[e].”

Behar was recently seen having what she described to Deadline as a “positive” meeting with new CNN chief Jeff Zucker, who has been aggressively recruiting on-air talent to the ratings-challenged cable network, recently hiring Jake Tapper and Chris Cuomo, among others.
