Keith Olbermann goes into Twitter overdrive following his absence from caucus coverage

Keith Olbermann (Peter Kramer - AP)
Keith Olbermann went into Twitter overdrive the day after he was a noticeable no-show on his network, Current TV, the night of the Iowa caucus.

“Nothing makes me laugh more than reading about myself,” Olbermann tweeted on Wednesday, during a long string of Twitter responses.

While the always-entertaining Olbermann was absent during the caucus coverage, it was instead anchored by Cenk Uygur, Jennifer Granholm, and network founderAl Gore.

Olbermann issued a formal, if somewhat coy, statement on Wednesday, saying, “I was not given a legitimate opportunity to host under acceptable conditions. They know it and we know it. Telling half the story is wrong.”

But Current TV countered with a memo: “Keith was asked to be the sole anchor and executive producer of our primary and caucus coverage. He declined,” web site Hollywood Reporter noted.

On Thursday, speculation seemed to fall into one of two camps — the
“Current TV Is Too Low-Rent for Olbermann” camp and the “Hello? They Hired Keith Olbermann” camp.
