OWN cancels Rosie O’Donnell’s talk show

Rosie O'Donnell (Nam Y. Huh - AP)

You’ve got just one more chance — tomorrow, March 20 — to attend the taping Rosie O’Donnell’s game-changing talk show for OWN.

Oh wait, no you don’t — the network had already tossed the live audience overboard in a last-ditch effort to save this sinking ratings ship. And word among the rumormongers was that the show was moving from Harpo Studios in Chicago to New York. But instead, it’s moving to that great failed-talk show graveyard, joining the likes of “The Jane Pauley Show,” “The Chevy Chase Show” and, of course, “The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien.”

The dismal performance of Rosie’s show for the network, which is Oprah Winfrey’s co-venture with Silver Spring-based Discovery Communications, is counted among the reasons long-time Winfrey favorite Lisa Erspamer was let go in January as OWN’s executive vice president of production and development.

Word of OWN’s decision to relieve Rosie of her show was announced in Take Out the Trash-style, late Friday.

“I thank Rosie from the bottom of my heart for joining me on this journey,” Winfrey said in that announcement.

“I wish the show was able to attract more viewers — but it did not,” added Rosie, who confirmed that she — though not the show — is in fact moving back to New York.

Your last chance to watch an episode of “The Rosie Show” will be next Friday, March 30.
