Regis Philbin sets Nov. 18 departure date from ‘Live! With Regis and Kelly’

We know Rege is retiring — but Tuesday morning, Regis Philbin made his departure from “Live! With Regis and Kelly” official: He announced that his last day will be during November sweeps. (Friday, Nov. 18., to be exact.)

Of course, the far more interesting news is who will be his replacement, but the show hosts said nothing is confirmed.

“She’s looking forward to some new, young, hot stud,” Philbin joked to co-host Kelly Ripa, who didn’t disagree.

“Kelly will begin trying out new co-hosts, just like 11 years ago when I did the same thing and found her,” he added.

Producer Michael Gelman piped up to say there is no short list of candidates, and Ripa added “alive and breathing” were important qualifications.

Rege announced in January that he would wrap up his 28-year run this season. His current “Live!” contract expires this year — which, according to Forbes, is worth $20 million.
