Report: Mario Lopez to co-host ‘X Factor’ with Khloe Kardashian

“The X Factor” maybe has its Too Tall Steve Jones replacement – and only two weeks after the show, you know, debuted!

 Mario Lopez.

This, according to the New York Post, offspring of NewCorp, which is also parent of Fox, on which airs “The X Factor.” On the other hand, Fox isn’t confirming — and we haven’t yet forgotten all those take-this-to-the-bank media reports about Nick Jonas being named one of the new judges on “American Idol.” By Nick Jones, turns out, those journalists meant “Keith Urban.”

Anyway, getting back to the button-eyed, dimple-cheeked host of celebrity suck-up show “Extra, ” Lopez is said to be show creator Simon Cowell’s idea of a step up from the Welsh TV show host — that’s Jones — he tapped last season to make sure the trains run on time on his singing competition series — you know, the show that was going to take down “American Idol.”

Now it can’t even take down “The Voice.”

But Lopez won’t get the spotlight all to himself. He’s going to share the stage with Khloe Kardashian, who, as The Post noted, generously, is “new to the rigors of hosting.”

Lopez wouldn’t be a bad choice; he’s got pots of experience hosting reality series such as “Pet Star,” and “Randy Jackson Presents America’s Best Dance Crew,” romancing his “Dancing with the Stars” partner Karina Smirnoff, appearing on “Hollywood Squares,” and working the red carpet on “Extra.” The versatile Lopez is also an accomplished actor, specializing in playing doctors (Dr. Mike Manoui on “Nip/Tuck,” Dr. Christian Ramirez on “The Bold and the Beautiful”), cops (Police Officer Bobby Cruz on ”Pacific Blue”) and, of course, Bayside High School’s star quarterback (A.C. Slater on “Saved by the Bell”).

But Lopez won’t get the spotlight all to himself. He’s going to share the stage with Khloe Kardashian, who, as The Post noted, generously, is “new to the rigors of hosting.”

That’s not to say Kardashian has no TV experience. She’s a veteran — it’s just that she has focused exclusively on the role of “herself” and let the writers, cameramen, and editors do all the heavy lifting on “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” “Khloe & Lamar,” “Kourtney & Kim Take New York,”  “Kourtney & Kim Take Miami” — though she did actually compete in one season of “The Apprentice.”

Turns out, it would not be the first time Khloe Kardashian — not to be confused with Kim Kardashian or Kourtney Kardashian — and Lopez have worked together. In 2012, Mario Lopez asppeared in an infomercial for Khloe, Kim, and Kourtney’s “Perfect Skin” skin-care system.

In addition to being very tall, and looking wonderful in a suit, Jones was best known for his perspicacious observations during each episode of “X” last season. Who can forget the time, after Lenny Kravitz performed, Jones proclaimed, “Handsome man!” And, recapping the previous night’s “X” performance show one week, Jones reminded viewers at the top of a results-night episode, “Last night the judges were pretty well behaved. I wasn’t told to shut up once!”
