Ryan Seacrest delays his “big NBC announcement” on ‘Today’

Ryan Seacrest (Matt Sayles - AP)
Day 1 of Katie Couric’s guest co-anchoring stint on “Today” show competitor “Good Morning America” did not go so well for “Today” — its counterprogramming “surprise legend” guest turned out to be NBC News staffer, and former “Today” co-anchor Meredith Vieira, who dropped by to announce she’d be joining them in London to cover the Summer Games. Yawn.

Will today’s “big NBC announcement” by Ryan Seacrest make headlines, or is he about to add his name to the list of Comcast talent heading to London for Games coverage? Will Tuesday’s “Today” guest-host Sarah Palin attract enough viewers to out-rate Day 2 of Katie on “GMA”?

About half an hour in to Tuesday’s show, “Today” co-host Matt Lauer showed viewers a tweet from Seacrest: “I’m feeling a little pain from elbow surgeryd, doctors say no travel for a day, so c u on @todayshow wed am.”

No Seacrest announcement today on “Today.” Katie Couric wins that round!
