Though a pact with Netflix for a second-window stream was not yet wrapped, AMC and Fox Television Studios announced early Tuesday afternoon that canceled “The Killing” is returning is returning to AMC for a third season.
To seal the return, Veena Sud is returning as showrunner; she created the original Danish series on which the AMC version was based, and ran the franchise’s first two seasons on that basic cable network.
Also back are stars Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman.
Picking up the story, Enos’s Sarah Lindin is no longer a detective, but when a string of murders is connected to one she’d investigated earlier, she’s dragged back into the fold.
And, all parties have promised that the new mystery in Season 3 will be resolved by the season’s 12th episode/season finale.
It was the lack of resolution to another murder story in the series’ first-season finale that outraged viewers and TV critics.
“To the fans that have supported the series, thank you for doing so,” Sud said in Tuesday’s statement. “My team and I will work hard to deliver the best story that we can for Season 3.”
