Vme to air Spanish-language broadcast of controversial ‘Kennedys’ miniseries

“The Kennedys,” the controversial but Emmy-celebrated miniseries that finally landed a home on ReelzChannel last spring, has found another channel willing to air the much-talked about project.

Cable channel Vme will air the Spanish-language broadcast of the eight-part miniseries, which chronicles the rise of the famous family and stars Greg Kinnear as President John F. Kennedy and Katie Holmes as Jackie O. The series will air Monday nights at 10, starting Jan. 30.

Co-created by former “24” producer Joel Surnow, “The Kennedys” has had quite the journey. It was picked up and then dropped by History after parent company A&E TV Networks saw the final version and said, “we have concluded this dramatic interpretation is not a fit for the History brand.”

Then came reports that Kennedy family members had lobbied to kill the project, and denials from other networks about picking up the canceled miniseries. However, the little-known ReelzChannel swooped in and aired the series last April, which worked out well — it scored 10 Emmy nominations, and picked up four trophies.

Vme will supplement its broadcast of “Los Kennedy” (featuring Columbian actress Catherine Siachoque as the Spanish-language voice of Jackie O) with host and news anchor Marian de la Fuente, who plans to introduce each episode and talk about historic events specifically of interest the U.S. Hispanic audience.
