‘Walking Dead’ breaks ratings records with third season premiere

“The Walking Dead” (Russell Kaye - AP)
AMC may be embroiled in a fight with Dish Network that’s serious enough to send zombies to invade Washington, but the third season premiere of “The Walking Dead” didn’t suffer.

Nearly 11 million people tuned into the zombie drama debut on Sunday, AMC announced, making in the most-watched drama series telecast in basic cable history. And including episode reruns at 10 p.m. and midnight, about 15.2 million viewers watched overall.

(Last October, the show attracted about 7.3 million to the second season premiere, and 11 million overall with repeats.)

Currently, AMC is involved in a dispute with Dish Network, which dropped all AMC Network channels this past summer. Dish says it didn’t want to carry AMC Network’s lower-rated channels; AMC says it’s because of an older, unrelated lawsuit between the two companies.
