Roma Downey, who played the Irish angel Monica on the hugely popular TV series “Touched by an Angel” said last week at a dinner preceding the National Prayer Breakfast, “Through much time in prayer I have realized that I want to spend the second act of my life doing projects that openly honor and glorify God.”
The first project she is doing, which launches this week, is a children’s DVD series called “Little Angels.” It’s the story of four year old twins who have angels painted on their ceiling who come to life to teach them the ABC’s, numbers and Bible stories. Along with her British husband, Hollywood megaproducer (of “Survivor,” “The Apprentice” and “The Voice” fame) Mark Burnett, Downey is at work on an app called Bible360 where you can share what the passages you’re reading, prayer requests, etc. with friends. And finally, she and Burnett will begin shooting a new Bible series this month in Morocco. It will be a 10 part, 10 hour long series that covers the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. At the dinner Downey said that “prayer has always played a a key role throughout my life” and she recited the prayer her father used to say with her every night in war torn Ireland after her mother’s death.
“Father in Heaven, my Savior dear/watch over my daughter and draw thou near/send your little angels to be at her side/to light and to guard, to love and to guide.”
