Albemarle County removes Sherlock Holmes novel from reading list

The Albemarle County School Board has voted to remove Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “A Study in Scarlet” from the sixth-grade curriculum saying it is derogatory to Mormons, according to The Daily Progress in Charlottesville, Va.

The decision stems from a May challenge by Brette Stevenson, a Henley Middle School parent, who said the book offers an “innacurate introduction to American religion.”

A committee studying the novel decided that the book was not age-appropriate for sixth-graders.
