Mormon official on church stance in politics: ‘We do not direct them on how to vote’

“The church has always encouraged people to be a part of the political process and to register to vote. However, we do not direct them on how to vote.”

Michael Purdy, a spokesman for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on the church’s stance in the 2012 presidential election. The church reiterated its position in the wake of an e-mail suggesting Mormons in Nevada to register the faithful, a message that was linked to a Romney supporter.
