The Washington Post’s On Faith Web site and On Faith Editor Elizabeth Tenety placed second for the Religion Newswriters Association’s Schachern Award for Online Religion Section of the Year following CNN.com’s Belief Blog and ahead of the Houston Chronicle. Tenety’s entries from the last year included coverage of the Dalai Lama’s visit to the nation’s capital and changes to Catholic Mass and Pope John Paul II’s legacy. The entry also included a column by Lisa Miller on evangelical women, a video interview with Mars Hills Bible Church founding pastor Rob Bell and a look back 10 years after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
Religion reporters from across the country won at the professional organization’s awards competition for religion reporting, design and commentary.
Julia Duin, for work done at The Washington Post Magazine, won third in the Religion Reporter of the Year contest for large newspapers and wire services. She also took second place in the Supple Religion Feature Writer of the Year award and second in the Magazine News Religion Report of the Year.
