More than a million Catholics are expected in Rome on May 1 to mark Pope John Paul II’s beatification, the next-to-last step before sainthood. Pope for 26 years, the Polish Karol Wojtyla is considered a historic player in everything from communism’s fall in Europe to the opening of the church to other faiths to modernizing ideas through the Second Vatican Council.
To mark the late pope’s beatification, we are looking for readers’ stories about his impact -- on their personal lives, the church, the world. Please send memories, observations, stories of 300 words or less to onfaith@washpost.com. Please include your full name, hometown and daytime telephone number for verification purposes. The Post will publish some of your responses online and on the April 30 religion page.
