Absentee ballot deadline approaching for Va’s presidential primary

Virginians who want to cast absentee ballots by mail for the March 6 Republican presidential primary must submit their applications by Feb. 28.

Only former governor Mitt Romney and Rep. Ron Paul (Tex.) will appear on the primary ballot. The other candidates — former House speaker Newt Gingrich and former senator Rick Santorum (Pa.) — did not qualify.

To vote absentee, voters must meet one of 18 eligibility requirements listed, Eligible voters may cast their absentee ballot by mail or in-person at their local registrar’s office.

Completed applications must be submitted by Feb. 28. Voters who want to vote absentee in-person can do that at their local general registrar’s office during normal business hours before March 3.

Virginia law does not allow for write-in votes in primary elections .
