Republican George Allen is in New York tonight raising money for his campaign for U.S. Senate.
The reception at the Union League Club is co-hosted by Arcadio Casillas, president of the Preferred Compensation Corporation and a donor to American Crossroads, a group that is attacking Allen’s rival, Democrat Tim Kaine, and lawyer Edward F. Cox, chairman of the New York Republican State Committee and son-in-law of the late President Richard M. Nixon. Tickets start at $500.
The race between Allen and Kaine is expected to be one of the most expensive in the nation. Both men are heading out of state for money.
Kaine, former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, has raised $8.6 million since his campaign began more than a year ago. Allen, a former governor and senator, has collected about $7.5 million.
