Days ahead of his showdown with Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling has announced he support of more than 100 grass-roots Republican leaders for his campaign for governor next year.
Each is either a current or immediate past unit chairman or a member of the Republican party’s State Central Committee.

“I'm proud to have the support of these grass-roots Republican leaders from all across the commonwealth,’’ Bolling said in a statement. “Their endorsement is representative of the broad support my campaign enjoys from conservative leaders in Virginia, including Governor Bob McDonnell. With their support I will continue working hard to provide common sense, conservative leadership for the people of Virginia.”
Bolling and Cuccinelli will square off Friday when the state GOP’s governing board will reconsider whether to hold a primary or a convention next year to nominate its candidate in what is shaping up to be a contentious and expensive race. (Read the full story here.)
Cuccinelli II, a tea party favorite whose causes have prompted national headlines, is widely expected to win the nomination if the Republicans hold a convention. Bolling, running as a pragmatic problem-solver in the mold of Gov. Robert F. McDonnell, is fighting to hold a primary.
