A powerful conservative group is embarking on a tour across the state to tell Virginians that U.S. Senate candidate Tim Kaine hurt families by “saddling the state with debt and proposing higher taxes.”
Speakers include Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli (R), political consultant Dick Morris and Americans for Prosperity and tea party activists.
AFP’s “Real Facts. Real Solutions: Tell Tim Kaine His Policies Hurt Virginia!” bus tour starts Tuesday and includes stops in Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince Williams counties as well as Richmond, Roanoke, Lynchburg, Virginia Beach and Harrisonburg.
“We will be rallying with fellow patriots to tell Tim Kaine that his policies do nothing to create jobs, end wasteful spending or reduce the size of government,’’ said Audrey Jackson, AFP state director.
Americans for Prosperity, a group founded with support from the billionaire Koch brothers, advocates lower taxes and smaller government and has long involved itself in tax issues in Virginia and across the nation.
The organization, which has its national headquarters in Arlington County and a state chapter in Richmond, played a significant role in the Republican takeover of the U.S. House in 2010 and has aired $7 million in anti-Obama TV ads during this election cycle.
Kaine faces George Allen (R) in the race for governor.
“The only candidate in this race who helped turn a record surplus into a massive deficit and saddled Americans with trillions in new debt is George Allen,” Kaine spokeswoman Lily Adams said. “While George Allen was busy toeing the party line by supporting policies that drove our economy to the brink of collapse, Tim Kaine’s approach helped Virginia earn accolades like the ‘Best State for Business.’ No amount of unlimited outside money can paper over George Allen’s failed, divisive record from his six years in the Senate. Virginians can’t afford to send him back.”
