Del. Cline’s absence? New fatherhood.

The gentleman from Rockbridge had good reason to be absent Friday. For Del. Ben Cline, it was a bit more serious than the usual "pressing personal business" that keep lawmakers away.

Cline's wife, Elizabeth, was giving birth to twin girls -- Catherine and Sarah-- making them brand-new parents.

Their happy news was announced to cheers on the floor of the House of Delegates.

Cline, 39, a lawyer, represents all or parts of Rockbridge, Amherst and Augusta
counties and the cities of Buena Vista and Lexington. The Republican is co-chairman of the conservative caucus.
