Donald Trump puts Gov. McDonnell on hold, in person

So you’re talking one-on-one with the governor of an important swing state, a guy who’s on national TV regularly as chairman of the Republican Governors Association, and your phone rings. Do you take the call?

If you’re Donald Trump, the answer apparently is yes.

In photos from the opening of Trump Vineyard Estates on Tuesday, Donald Trump can be seen talking intently into his cell — you can almost hear him barking, “You’re fired!” — as Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell stands by, keeping up a smile while cooling his heels.

No one from the governor’s office could tell us who was on the other end of the line. Nor did anyone know if Trump’s phone rang or if the newly minted vintner placed the call himself.

Lest anyone think The Donald really snubbed the gov, it’s clear from the rest of the gubernatorial photo gallery that, despite the interruption, the two had lots of time to chat.
