The two main-party candidates in the race for the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors’ seat in the key Braddock District have agreed to hold 10 debates beginning Sept. 14, their campaigns said Monday.
In a joint news release, Supervisor John C. Cook, the Republican incumbent, and Democratic challenger Janet S. Oleszek, a former school board member, said they came to agreement on the number of forums — which they believe could set a record for a magisterial district election — and on arrangements for the first two debates in September.
Carey C. Campbell, a former vice president of the Fairfax County Federation of Civic Associations who is running for Braddock District supervisor as an independent, will also participate in the September debates, the campaigns said.
Republicans and Democrats in the county are focusing particular attention on the competition for a seat that had been held previously by Sharon S. Bulova (D) before she became chairman of the Board of Supervisors.
In a notably collaborative effort, the candidates invited members of the community who might be interested in hosting any of the remaining eight debates. in October and November to contact both campaigns through their Web sites with proposed dates and hosts.
