Virginia has a new director for its Department of Juvenile Justice.
Mark Gooch has served as the department’s chief deputy director since August 2010 and as interim director since March 2012, when Helivi Holland left to become city attorney in Suffolk.
Gov. Robert F. McDonnell (R) announced Gooch’s appointment Friday.
Gooch was superintendent of the Pamunkey Regional Jail from 1999 to 2006. There, he helped develop reentry programs programs, tapping local businesses, faith-based groups and financial institutions to conduct life-skills training in areas such as money management, job search, parenting and substance abuse counseling, the governor’s office said.
