McAuliffe helps McEachin raise some cash

Fresh off a business trip to China, Terry McAuliffe will be in Richmond on Wednesday night headlining a fundraising reception for Sen. Don McEachin.

McEachin, you’ll recall, supported Sen. Creigh Deeds in the Democratic primary in the 2009 gubernatorial race against McAuliffe.

“We are one Democratic party trying to hold onto the majority in the Senate,’’ McEachin said.

McEachin, a Richmond Democrat who is looking to run for reelection and possibly chairman of the Senate Democratic caucus, may also be interested in a U.S. House seat in 2012 or a statewide run in 2013.

McAuliffe, who is contemplating a second bid for Virginia governor, has already garnered support from other longtime supporters of Deeds and his former Democratic rival, Brian Moran, now chairman of the Democratic party.

In the coming weeks, the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee will continue to help lawmakers across the state. He has fundraisers lined up for Del. Scott Surovell (D-Mount Vernon), Del. Charniele Herring, (D-Alexandria) and Sharon Bulova, chairwoman of Fairfax County board of supervisors.
