Gov. Bob McDonnell, who hopes to help fellow Republicans take control of the Senate in November, finished a busy week of campaign events for GOP candidates.
On Monday, he attended a fundraiser and rally in Fredericksburg for
Bryce Reeves, who is challenging Democratic Sen. Ed Houck (D-Spotsylvania).
On Tuesday, he headlined a Vienna fundraiser for Caren Merrick, who faces the winner of the Democratic primary for the seat now held by retiring Sen. Mary Margaret Whipple (D-Arlington). Arlington Board member Barbara Favola and Jaime Areizaga-Soto, who formerly worked at the U.S. Agency for International Development, are in one of the most heated nomination battles in the state.
On Wednesday, he attended a Virginia Beach fundraiser for Ben Loyola, who recently secured the Republican nomination to take on Sen. Ralph Northam (D-Northam).
On Thursday, he held a fundraiser for Sen. Steve Newman (R-Lynchburg) in Forest.
The same day, he also headlined a Rocky Mount fundraiser for Del. Charles Poindexter (R-Franklin), who faces a tough race against House Minority Leader Ward Armstrong.
