Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) signed his 36th executive order Tuesday, requiring thousands of state vehicles to shift to alternative fuels
The Office of Fleet Management Services oversees about 4,000 vehicles used by more than 175 state agencies and institutions.
“Increased use of alternative fuel vehicles holds the potential to help reduce our dependence on foreign oil, support the expansion of private-sector businesses and create new jobs here in the commonwealth,’’ McDonnell said. “This potential is why, in my administration, Virginia is pursuing an ‘all fuels approach’ to the vehicles it uses in conducting its business.”
The executive order requires that a plan to move the state’s fleet of vehicles be completed by Jan. 1.
