Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) will fly to Houston this weekend to see hometown team Virginia Commonwealth University play Butler in the Final Four college basketball tournament.
“I’m counting on VCU to go all the way,’’ McDonnell told listeners on his monthly call-in show on WTOP radio Tuesday morning. “Boy, they’re just doing a great job — playing hard and representing the state and the school well...I want to be there to see history made.’’
McDonnell’s daughter, Cailin, got her master’s degree at VCU. VCU defeated top seed Kansas on Sunday to win a trip to Saturday’s Final Four.
McDonnell spokesman Tucker Martin was not able to say who was paying for the trip or who was accompanying the governor because, he said, the details were still being worked out.
