Gov. Robert F. McDonnell will jet off to
Europe and Asia later this year on his next pair of trade missions.
McDonnell (R) said he expects to go to Europe in the summer and to Asia in the winter to lure businesses to Virginia.
“Asia and Europe give us the best opportunities and the best return,’’ he said in a recent interview.
Schedules are still being worked out, but countries that he and his staff are considering are Ireland, Germany, Britain and China.
McDonnell went on his first trade mission to Europe — an eight-day trip to Britain, the Netherlands and Germany — in July 2010. The trip was built around the Farnborough International Air Show outside London.
In May 2011, he traveled to Japan, China and Korea for 10 days. In June, he flew to the City of Light for a quick two-day trip to the Paris Air Show, an international trade fair for the aerospace business held every other year. And in November, he went on an 11-day trip to India and Israel .
