While U.S. athletes compete in London at the 2012 Olympics, President Obama and Mitt Romney will stage a separate battle on the airwaves.
Restore Our Future, a super-PAC established to help the Republican presidential nominee, announced Thursday that it was buying $7.2 million worth of airtime during the Olympics in 11 states — including Virginia. The purchase could fit nearly into a key Romney campaign storyline, highlighting his role overseeing the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
The purchase follows the Obama campaign’s announcement that it made its own multi-million dollar ad buy during the Olympics, ensuring that sports fans will be inundated with political spots in between events.
In addition to Virginia, Restore Our Future also bought time in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
