Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney raised more money in Virginia in May than President Obama, according to new fundraising numbers released Monday.
Romney raised $547,759 among itemized 51 donors contributing $200 or more while Obama took in $391,745 from 855 contributors, according to the Virginia Public Access Project.

The former Massachusetts governor holds a narrow lead since January, $2 millon to $1.9 million.
VPAP’s analysis, which uses data compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics, does not include smaller, unitemized donations. But it still provides a glim pse into fundraising in the battleground state.
VPAP also has an updated Zip code map of the state showing each contender’s areas of fundraising strength.
