Terry McAuliffe golfs with President Obama, Bill Clinton

While Virginia gubernatorial hopeful Ken Cuccinelli huddled with fellow Republicans at the GOP Advance this weekend, the attorney general’s only declared Democratic rival enjoyed a confab of his own.

Terry McAuliffe, the former Democratic National Committee chairman, played golf Sunday with President Obama, former President Bill Clinton and U.S.Trade Representative Ron Kirk , the White House said.

McAuliffe, a longtime friend of Clinton’s, is expected to tap those connections in his bid for the governor’s mansion. He has the Democratic field to himself for now, though former congressman Tom Perriello is said to be at least considering a run.

Cuccinelli saw his biggest rival drop out of the race for the GOP nomination last week. Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling bowed out of the contest to succeed Gov. Robert F. McDonnell (R), who is barred by the state constitution from seeking a consecutive term.
