Three candidates vie for seat in Virginia’s House of Delegates in Tuesday’s special election

Voters in northern Virginia will head to the polls Tuesday for a special election to replace former Del. David L. Englin, who resigned from Virginia’s House of Delegates in the wake of an extramarital affair.

Justin Malkin, K. Rob Krupicka and Tim McGhee.
Democrat Rob Krupicka, a current Alexandria council member, is on the ballot with Republican Timothy McGhee and Libertarian Justin Malkin for the vacated seat in the 45th District.

McGhee and Krupicka both made unsuccessful bids for state Senate last year.

The 45th District includes parts of Fairfax and Arlington counties, as well as Alexandria.

David L. Englin (D-Alexandria) stepped down in August.
Englin, who was serving his fourth term in the House of Delegates, announced his resignation in June after disclosing the affair. In a letter to supporters, he wrote, “I have concluded that the time has come for my family and me to leave public life.”

The polls in Virginia are open Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
