Va. Democrats fill key slots with eye to 2012 elections

Virginia Democrats are ramping up their staff in time for the crucial 2012 elections.

The Democratic Party of Virginia announced Thursday that it has hired two senior staffers as it looks to keep retiring U.S. Sen. Jim Webb’s seat in Democratic hands and help President Obama get reelected.

Ashley Roseboro, who worked in Missouri on Sen. Claire McCaskill’s campaign and for the St. Louis County Board of Elections, will be the party’s operations manager.

Clark Mercer, former head of the Alexandria Democratic Committee who worked for Mayor Bill Euille and on Sen. Mark Warner’s Senate campaign, will be political director. He replaces Don Mark, who went to work for President Obama’s reelection campaign in Virginia.
