Warner offers online forum to thank Navy SEALs for bin Laden mission

The identities of the Navy SEALs who killed Osama bin Laden remain secret. But we do know that they were based near Virginia Beach, and residents of the Commonwealth have taken much pride in that fact.

Since Virginians likely won’t be able to shake the SEALs’ hands or buy them a beer anytime soon, Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) is offering something else — the chance to thank them online.

Warner’s Senate Web site now includes a page where visitors can write comments for the SEALs. The senator’s office says the comments will be delivered to Navy SEAL commanders in Dam Neck, Va., who could then pass them along to the troops who participated in the dramatic mission in Pakistan.

“These Navy commandos can never be celebrated at parades, press conferences or photo ops,” Warner said. “But I believe a lot of Virginians, and many Americans, would like to say thank you.”
