Everyone seems to think the state Senate race between Democratic George Barker and Republican Miller Baker will be one of the closest in the state Tuesday.
But will the similarities in their name be the reason?
Barker, the senator from Fairfax and Prince William counties, seems to think so -- after all, he beat Sen. Jay O’Brien (R) four years ago by just 400 votes in the swing district.
He has started using his full name — George Lincoln Barker — on literature and blanketed the region with signs reading “Barker not Baker,” a play on the “Mark not John” slogan that now-Sen. Mark Warner (D) used in his failed 1996 bid to unseat then-U.S. Sen. John Warner (R).
