Fairfax considers ending school year early

This winter’s mild weather has ushered in early cherry blossoms, an early allergy season and maybe — for kids in Fairfax County — an early summer vacation.

The proposal is to end the school year on Friday, June 15, instead of Tuesday, June 19. The school board will begin discussing the issue at its March 29 evening meeting; the board will vote on April 12.

If the board passes the change, June 18 and 19 will be converted into teacher workdays.

As always, parents and other community members can weigh in by e-mailing board members or by signing up to speak at a school board meeting.
