Below are step-by-step instructions on how to upload your photos. Here are a few other reminders: Read the rules. We are not accepting photos via e-mail. You must upload your photo via the submission page. If you have problems submitting, read the step-by-step instructions below and then ask for assistance via e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org with “Historic Home Contest” in the subject line.
STEP 1: You must be signed in to your washingtonpost.com account to submit a photo. This is the same account you might already use for commenting on our site. Don’t have an account? Click “register” to create one.
STEP 2: Once you are signed in, you should be redirected to the submission page. If not, please navigate back to the submission page. You should now see an indication that you are logged in. Note that your username will appear with your photo.
Click browse to upload your photo.
STEP 3: Select your photo from you computer as you would attach a photo to an e-mail. We suggest you upload the highest-quality version of the photos you have up to 5 MB in size. You can upload only one photo at a time.
STEP 4: Wait for the upload. It should not take more than a couple minutes. If the spin wheel icon persists beyond a few minutes, try using a computer with a faster Internet connection or a different browser.
STEP 5: This is the most complicated step. A thumbnail image should appear (NOTE: Vertical-oriented photos will not have a proper thumbnail. Do not worry, we receive vertical photos just fine.).
Below that, you should see a spot for your caption information. That is where we encourage you to elaborate on your photo. This information will be public.
Below that, there is a private field for your contact information: e-mail address, phone number and full name. When you’re all done, click submit.
STEP 6: Do this for each photo you’re submitting to the contest and you’re done! When you see the confirmation message, your photo has been submitted. We do not send you a confirmation e-mail and all photos need to be approved before they display on the gallery page. If you don’t see your photo appear within a few hours, e-mail email@example.com.
