Which house would you buy for $300,000?

This week, our cover story looks at vacation homes within driving distance of Washington, D.C., and asks: What can you buy for $300,000?

With prices still depressed in some areas and interest rates at all-time lows, some people are thinking about their summer plans and wondering whether it would make sense to buy a vacation property to enjoy with family and also possibly make money on in rental income.

We found three properties within driving distance at around the $300,000 price point — on the Outer Banks, N.C.; at Deep Creek Lake, Md.; and on Chincoteague Island, Va.

So, let’s have some fun. Check out our gallery and tell us: Which one would you buy if you had an extra $300,000 lying around?
